When they harvest organs for donation, does the donor need to be dead?

you can be a volunteer live donor but other that that they are dead when they donate. only by volunteer again. but in the event of being brain dead. the person in charge of their medical issues is the one who gives the option or not to take the organs. once the organs are taken they are put in a place to keep them living until the recipient needs them. many many many test are done to make sure it is the right blood type and everything is good enough to transplant.
