What is the Catholic Church's take on the Shroud of Turin?

I recently mentioned to a very devout Catholic that the Shroud of Turin has been scientifically dated (I forget the actual procedure) to around 1200 AD. She said that is only what the scientists say, giving me the impression that she believes it to be a true garment of Christ. I didn't ask her if this was her personal belief, or if this is the stance the Catholic church espouses, I wish I had. Does anyone here know the Catholic church's stance?
